The email was from Anne's sister-in-law MM. The title of the email was "OSCAR EMERGENCY".<br /><br />I saw the title of said email while I was driving to work (I was at a stop light on Mulholland where it crosses Coldwater Canyon so I was not driving and reading emails...fyi...)..."OSCAR EMERGENCY". Oscar emergency? What is an Oscar emergency? Huh. I chuckled and smiled and thought how fabulous that someone is actually having an Oscar emergency. Then I read the email...<br /><br />As it turns out Anne's other very posh sister-in-law SM was headed to Los Angeles today (Friday) because she and her husband, a posh business executive, had just been invited VIP style to the Oscars (or they just decided to go...or something)...anyhooooo...MM (the first sister-in-law...who owns a fabulous children's furnishings store named <a href="http://www.tottini.com/" target="new">tottini</a> in Seattle) was emailing me and Anne for names of stylists who might pull gowns for SM.<br /><br />Complicated but this is all to say...Anne's posh sister-in-law indeed was having an OSCAR EMERGENCY...no dress, a big star studded event to go to on Sunday and no time....an emergency indeed!<br /><br />So after Anne and I lamented on the phone about how much we wanted to have an OSCAR EMERGENCY...we wanted to be flown into to town to find a fabulous dress and then sashay down the red carpet...and look gorgeous and drink champagne and smile and laugh and hobknob...and...strut and look great and smile and laugh and be photographed and blah blah blah....I finally jumped into action and connected SM with my fabulous style consultant who dresses stars like Reese Witherspoon etc.<br /><br />SM is flying in this morning and meeting with my lady from 10-12. One thing I will say too living here in Los Angeles and seeing so much style gone awry in entertainment industry homes...this home is definitely on point, well decorated and well done (not that Sheryl (notice I'm on a first name basis with her now) would even care about my opinion...but there you have it Sheryl...in my humble and not so humble opinion, you have a nice house!).<br /><br /><center><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TR6kZ0Fsptc/TWKgVPGO7oI/AAAAAAAAKvw/2--6NhieQSo/s1600/architectural%2Bdigest%2Bsheryl%2Bcrow%2Bliving%2Broom.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 393px; HEIGHT: 520px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576195575328468610" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TR6kZ0Fsptc/TWKgVPGO7oI/AAAAAAAAKvw/2--6NhieQSo/s800/architectural%2Bdigest%2Bsheryl%2Bcrow%2Bliving%2Broom.jpg" /></a></center><br /><br /><center><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PavFcCUdXDM/TWKgV0Pi6eI/AAAAAAAAKwA/g31HOmZV7bo/s1600/architectural%2Bdigest%2Bsheryl%2Bcrow%2Bhome%2Bnook%2Bcabinet%2Bcuriosities%2Bknick%2Bknacks%2Bcollectibles%2Bvintage%2Bleather%2Bgreen%2Bchair.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 363px; HEIGHT: 520px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576195585299638754" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PavFcCUdXDM/TWKgV0Pi6eI/AAAAAAAAKwA/g31HOmZV7bo/s800/architectural%2Bdigest%2Bsheryl%2Bcrow%2Bhome%2Bnook%2Bcabinet%2Bcuriosities%2Bknick%2Bknacks%2Bcollectibles%2Bvintage%2Bleather%2Bgreen%2Bchair.jpg" /></a></center><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Rr8ey2oLgYY/TWKha55k-kI/AAAAAAAAKwI/6_a1asePpgQ/s1600/architectural%2Bdigest%2Bexterior%2Bsherly%2Bcrow%2Bhouse%2Bestate%2B1926%2Bspanish%2Bcolonial%2Bsouthern%2Bcalifornia.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 520px; HEIGHT: 377px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576196772229085762" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Rr8ey2oLgYY/TWKha55k-kI/AAAAAAAAKwI/6_a1asePpgQ/s800/architectural%2Bdigest%2Bexterior%2Bsherly%2Bcrow%2Bhouse%2Bestate%2B1926%2Bspanish%2Bcolonial%2Bsouthern%2Bcalifornia.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><center><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4dnSj9bNjn8/TWKhbZ_pbZI/AAAAAAAAKwY/CZFuACNdsU4/s1600/arhitectural%2Bdigest%2Bsheryl%2Bcrow%2Bkitchen%2Bsubway%2Btiles%2Bwolf%2Bstove%2Brange.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 390px; HEIGHT: 520px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576196780844477842" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4dnSj9bNjn8/TWKhbZ_pbZI/AAAAAAAAKwY/CZFuACNdsU4/s400/arhitectural%2Bdigest%2Bsheryl%2Bcrow%2Bkitchen%2Bsubway%2Btiles%2Bwolf%2Bstove%2Brange.jpg" /></a></center><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_CJMiaOWICo/TWKcdFkyc2I/AAAAAAAAKvo/y6sB_Yrq-VI/s1600/architectural%2Bdigest%2Bsheryl%2Bcrow%2Bhouse%2Bmaster%2Bbedroom%2B4%2Bposter%2Bbed%2Bturned%2Bwhite%2Blinens.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 520px; HEIGHT: 380px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576191312164713314" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_CJMiaOWICo/TWKcdFkyc2I/AAAAAAAAKvo/y6sB_Yrq-VI/s800/architectural%2Bdigest%2Bsheryl%2Bcrow%2Bhouse%2Bmaster%2Bbedroom%2B4%2Bposter%2Bbed%2Bturned%2Bwhite%2Blinens.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ie8z7BKPlck/TWKcc_YZP3I/AAAAAAAAKvg/NrSg-M7eB7A/s1600/architectural%2Bdigest%2Bsheryl%2Bcrow%2Bhouse%2Bdesk.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 520px; HEIGHT: 502px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576191310502117234" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ie8z7BKPlck/TWKcc_YZP3I/AAAAAAAAKvg/NrSg-M7eB7A/s800/architectural%2Bdigest%2Bsheryl%2Bcrow%2Bhouse%2Bdesk.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cTrd-hChWjo/TWKccpupjTI/AAAAAAAAKvY/ZCeq5HrAvG4/s1600/architectural%2Bdigest%2Bsheryl%2Bcrow%2Bhammock%2Bview%2Bcity.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 520px; HEIGHT: 380px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576191304689880370" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cTrd-hChWjo/TWKccpupjTI/AAAAAAAAKvY/ZCeq5HrAvG4/s800/architectural%2Bdigest%2Bsheryl%2Bcrow%2Bhammock%2Bview%2Bcity.jpg" /></a><br /><br />A couple things I'm loving about the decor and design...love the antique bicycle over the fireplace mantel in the living room, love the kitchen with the subway tile covered walls and Wolf range, love the hammock with the city view...I love a well placed hammock!<br /><br />What do you think of musician Sheryl Crow's California estate ? I want to get married to have a wonderful reception? Well I figure until I meet a cool guy and I feel so compelled to get married for the right reason - love - I'm looking at marriage as a wonderful excuse to have a great party and all of your family and friends around you and to wear a pretty dress (I forgot one other variable...the hypothetical cool guy would have to ask me to marry him in order for there to be a marriage...I am traditional in this area). Something so very romantic about it. Fitting...romance on Valentine's Day. My favorite color combination is green, white and brown as three colors together...but I think blue (as of late) is my favorite color. Why not shock a space or your look a bit with some very vivid blue? Would go into my closet and find some blue to wear to work today if everything in my winter wardrobe weren't jet black...hmmmm....?<br /><br />As an aside, I've gotta say...spent some time browsing through what has come off the runway for fashion week...I did not find much I like (lots of patchwork huge slouchy guinea sack looking dresses (frankly quite unattractive and of no help to girls who are still trying to look cute and find a Valentine :-))...<br /><br />I did, however, find these darling metallic blue pieces in <a href="http://www.petersom.com/" target="new"><strong>Peter Som's</strong></a> fall 2011 ready-to-wear collection. Love the sparkling blue, the silhouettes of the long gowns. Very cute. Fun. Playful I think.<br /><br />So many shades and tones of blue in one fireplace and in a few finds from last week's New York Fashion Week.<br /><br /><center><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k1EX9QA0RA8/TVlSFjOp0iI/AAAAAAAAKqk/fYrInWxMunI/s1600/peter%2Bsom%2Bfall%2B2011%2Brtw%2Bglitter%2Belectric%2Bcobalt%2Bblue%2Bpants%2Bskirt%2Bwhite%2Bsleeveless%2Btop.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 347px; HEIGHT: 520px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5573576269157224994" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-k1EX9QA0RA8/TVlSFjOp0iI/AAAAAAAAKqk/fYrInWxMunI/s800/peter%2Bsom%2Bfall%2B2011%2Brtw%2Bglitter%2Belectric%2Bcobalt%2Bblue%2Bpants%2Bskirt%2Bwhite%2Bsleeveless%2Btop.jpg" /></a></center><br />What other color reminds you of romance? She moved from her adorable cottage in Venice Beach, CA (I did <a href="http://www.cococozy.com/2009/05/see-this-house-venice-beach-craftsman.html" target="new">a post on Juliana's cute beach cottage</a> awhile back).<br /><br />Juliana made over her life by moving across country from Venice Beach to Manhattan...and just last month decided to makeover her sofa!<br /><br />She bought the original sofa back in 2005 (see before photo below) and felt that she needed a more sleek modern look for her city digs.<br /><br /><center><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nyxPH_CKcw4/TVWDSLOhLUI/AAAAAAAAKqE/Q6H5H280yKU/s1600/IMG_1693.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 471px; HEIGHT: 520px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572504462215425346" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nyxPH_CKcw4/TVWDSLOhLUI/AAAAAAAAKqE/Q6H5H280yKU/s800/IMG_1693.jpg" /></a><br />Before, the sofa had three seat cushions and more of a traditional feel. Here it is shown in Juliana's home in Venice Beach before the move. (above)</center><br />Here's a little Q&amp;A with Juliana about her sofa's micro makeover:<br /><br /><strong>COCO</strong>: Why did you decide to makeover your couch btw?<br /><strong>JULIANA JAOUDI (JJ): </strong>I wanted a more modern, clean and fresh look. I bought the couch in 2005 and at the time, wanted something more traditional. And then there's the simple fact the fabric was beyond cleaning and the cushions had really lost their original shape.<br /><br /><strong>COCO</strong>: Why the single seat?<br /><strong>JJ</strong>: The old couch felt too compartmentalized. The single seat streamlines the look as well. It's just more comfortable too. Later in the process, I remembered I had this beautiful silk fabric I bought in Shanghai a few years ago. That inspired the bolster which also simplified the look while adding beautiful color.<br /><br /><strong>COCO</strong>: What is the color of the new fabric...and what type of fabric is it?<br /><strong>JJ</strong>: The fabric is linen (P. Kaufman Slubby linen). The color is Ivory. I bought it at Zarin's here in New York. I was worried about linen not holding its shape but this particular cut is thicker and perfect for a couch, chair or major piece of furniture (vs. an accessory).<br /><br /><strong>COCO:</strong> What was the old fabric?<br /><strong>JJ</strong>: I bought the couch at Grace Home Furnishings in Brentwood. It's the Churchill. The manufacturer is <a href="http://www.dinomarkanthony.com/" target="new">Dino Mark Anthony</a> I don't know the actual mill but the color was "St. Andrews Pearl." It had a nice herringbone pattern and was a chenille type of fabric.<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVWDRwD1uiI/AAAAAAAAKp8/CeYeEKDaESs/s1600/P1020259.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 520px; HEIGHT: 390px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572504454922877474" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVWDRwD1uiI/AAAAAAAAKp8/CeYeEKDaESs/s800/P1020259.JPG" /></a><br />After, Juliana's sofa now has more of a sleek modern feel to it with the single seat cushion, squared off back pillows and the modern clean ivory fabric. Love this! (above)<br /><br /><strong>COCO</strong>: Why not just get a new couch?<br /><strong>JJ</strong>: I liked the idea of a makeover. I moved from California to New York City and while I'm still me, there's an element of reinvention when creating a new home. I'm sentimental too! I'm attached to the couch (as much as one can be attached to a piece of furniture) since I bought it for my house in Venice Beach. Practically speaking, I knew what I wanted and just didn't want to confuse myself with all the other choices out there. It likely would have cost just as much and this way, I was able to customize it to my liking.<br /><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVWDSqbarbI/AAAAAAAAKqM/7FBU5vnOb8M/s1600/P1020252.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 520px; HEIGHT: 390px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572504470591024562" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVWDSqbarbI/AAAAAAAAKqM/7FBU5vnOb8M/s800/P1020252.JPG" /></a><br /><br />Thank you Juliana for sharing your micro makeover. I know, I just mentioned this Garden &amp; Gun post yesterday but I have good reason for mentioning it again: 1. I so loved her write up (self indulgent perhaps...LOL); 2. My friends FF and CF from New Orleans just emailed me (from a plane) saying they had just read it and how happy they were I mentioned NOLA. I had to mention it again you see...I just had to! Don't worry...I'm not turning into a total narcissist (yet...hee hee)!<br /><br />P.P.S. COCOCOZY Press Take II: New thank you! These tables while covet worthy sell in the $20,000 range putting well beyond the reach of most people.<br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVP74FjvdOI/AAAAAAAAKnk/pOs5Hud6xzY/s1600/01_sting.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 520px; HEIGHT: 330px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572074104970769634" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVP74FjvdOI/AAAAAAAAKnk/pOs5Hud6xzY/s800/01_sting.jpg" /></a><br /><strong><span style="font-size:78%;">Photo: </span></strong><a href="http://www.architecturaldigest.com/" target="new"><strong><span style="font-size:78%;">Architectural Digest</span></strong></a><br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVP74TVOR9I/AAAAAAAAKns/3jAk7qLKQxw/s1600/02_netto.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 520px; HEIGHT: 407px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572074108667971538" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVP74TVOR9I/AAAAAAAAKns/3jAk7qLKQxw/s800/02_netto.jpg" /></a><br /><strong><span style="font-size:78%;">Photo: </span></strong><a href="http://www.davidnettodesign.com/" target="new"><strong><span style="font-size:78%;">David Netto</span></strong></a><br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVP74S1QwHI/AAAAAAAAKn0/y68N-2SBgSs/s1600/03_unknown.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 520px; HEIGHT: 332px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572074108533915762" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVP74S1QwHI/AAAAAAAAKn0/y68N-2SBgSs/s800/03_unknown.jpg" /></a><br /><br />But what is so wonderful about this color is even in the smallest amount it adds a vibrant energy to a room. Here, in the image below, socialite/magazine editor Fabiola Berecasa uses Yves Klein blue in their framing of art and photos.<br /><br /><center><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVQBi2TxDBI/AAAAAAAAKo8/slcO6hYdGHY/s1600/04_fabiola%2Bberacasa.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 347px; HEIGHT: 520px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572080337169746962" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVQBi2TxDBI/AAAAAAAAKo8/slcO6hYdGHY/s800/04_fabiola%2Bberacasa.jpg" /></a><br /><strong><span style="font-size:78%;">Photo: </span></strong><a href="http://www.vogue.com/" target="new"><strong><span style="font-size:78%;">Vogue</span></strong></a><br />Fabiola Beracasa in her bedroom with a hint of Yves Klein blue peeking through in the form of a picture frame(above)</center><br />Paint, fabric, art, books, ashtrays and vases are all other great vehicles for this vibrant blue color as you can see below.<br /><br /><center><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVP82m2RK3I/AAAAAAAAKoc/NnW0e8ffa-U/s1600/06_37.%2Bmiles%2Bredd%2Bnymag.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 390px; HEIGHT: 520px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572075179058735986" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVP82m2RK3I/AAAAAAAAKoc/NnW0e8ffa-U/s800/06_37.%2Bmiles%2Bredd%2Bnymag.jpg" /></a><br /><strong><span style="font-size:78%;">Photo: </span></strong><a href="http://nymag.com/" target="new"><strong><span style="font-size:78%;">New York Magazine</span></strong></a></center><br /><br /><center><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T-sogW3vhEI/TVP9kaqNbpI/AAAAAAAAKo0/hKxjAwwz1TU/s1600/07_bestLR%2Bcopy.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 433px; HEIGHT: 519px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572075966060916370" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-T-sogW3vhEI/TVP9kaqNbpI/AAAAAAAAKo0/hKxjAwwz1TU/s800/07_bestLR%2Bcopy.jpg" /></a></center><br /><br /><center><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVP83fbh7xI/AAAAAAAAKok/qN9Hl9SN_JM/s1600/08_Francois%2BCatroux%2B%25281%2529.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 410px; HEIGHT: 520px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572075194247409426" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVP83fbh7xI/AAAAAAAAKok/qN9Hl9SN_JM/s800/08_Francois%2BCatroux%2B%25281%2529.jpg" /></a><br /><strong><span style="font-size:78%;">Photo: </span></strong><a href="http://www.houseandgarden.co.uk/" target="new"><strong><span style="font-size:78%;">House &amp; Garden</span></strong></a><strong><span style="font-size:78%;"><br /></span></strong></center><br /><center><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVP9DocE78I/AAAAAAAAKos/gmA2uNz6hzI/s1600/09_italianAD_1.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 387px; HEIGHT: 520px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5572075402824052674" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6RuB-MyU_O4/TVP9DocE78I/AAAAAAAAKos/gmA2uNz6hzI/s800/09_italianAD_1.jpg" /></a><br /><strong><span style="font-size:78%;">Photo: AD Italia</span></strong></center><br />I think the idea is to add one bold element of Yves Klein blue into a space and see where it takes you....<br /><br /><center><strong>END GUEST POST by ALISON BLUMENFELD</strong></center><center><strong>***</strong></center><br />Thank you <a href="http://www.blumenfeldinteriors.com/" target="new"><strong>Alison Blumenfeld</strong></a> for the wonderful post!<br /><br />Readers, where might you use a pop of Yves Klein blue in your home? What accent color do you find yourself gravitating towards when you decorate? Please do tell!<br /><br />Rushing off to work as usual...not a clue as to what I will wear. Oh dear. Not that it matters...I tend to "dress" very nicely for work but I wonder if anyone would notice if I wore my pjs to work. Should I give it a try...would make my life so much easier?<br /><br />Happy Thursday!<br /><br />xo<br />Coco<br /><br />P.S. COCOCOZY Press: Repeat thank you! Another big thank you to the very nice <strong>Haskell Harris</strong> of <a href="http://gardenandgun.com/"><strong>Garden &amp; Gun Magazine</strong> </a>for<a href="http://gardenandgun.com/blog/best-finds-gift-show-part-iii" target="new"> the lovely blog post on the COCOCOZY collection launch</a> on her blog for the magazine called Belle Decor. Also, just noticed another fab posting about the COCOCOZY collection from <strong>Nicole</strong> at <a href="http://www.sohautestyle.com/2011/02/nyigf-2011-highlights.html" target="new"><strong>So Haute</strong></a><strong> blog</strong>. Had the pleasure of meeting Nicole in New York! She's included COCOCOZY in her NYIGF round up!
